Image Of The Week - 09/29/2006

This image shows the HR-TEM of a 12 W/nm2
WO3/ZrO2 catalyst which depicts
both the WO3 and the underlying ZrO2 support. This image confirms the
presence of a monolayer polymeric surface WO5 species with
WO3 nanoparticles
(NPs) forming in small clusters(~1-2 nm). This catalyst is formed by the
incipient wetness impregnation method of ammonium metatungstate and a
preformed ZrO2 support. The formation of the small WO3 NPs on top of the
WOx
monolayer has been found to increase the acid activity of methanol
dehydration.
